“Experimenting forms a base for our children’s dynamic learning process”
Primary education at CAXTON COLLEGE is centred around:
- A dynamic learning system based on the child’s action and experimentation. They experience the excitement of learning by trying new things, learning from their mistakes and recognizing their achievements.
- An all round education, emphasising the importance of artistic and musical understanding, etc.
- The acquisition of study habits and skills. The current primary curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world and the skills they will need to flourish in it.
- The primary curriculum helps pupils to develop the confidence they need to continue as lifelong learners.
Our aim is to provide the development of cognitive, affective, motor and social skills, as well as the ability to communicate and think in a logical way. The pupils acquire sound knowledge of the environment through their own observations and practical experiences.
In the Primary curriculum, we place special importance on the learning of reading, writing and mathematics. These skills are the main tools to build upon in the pupils’ future academic learning.
“Our primary education is centred around active teaching and student participation”
The development of the creative area is carried out using many different techniques such as creative writing and varied creative and manual activities.
We also encourage investigation, experimentation, research and individual and group work. Art material is displayed in classrooms and corridors to create a stimulating learning atmosphere around the school.
During this stage the National Curriculum subjects are taught by the class teacher, and the subjects of Physical Education, Music and Spanish are taught by other specialist teachers.
Pupils in Year 2 and Year 6), will undertake the British official examinations known as SATS.
