COAT OF ARMS & HYMN

William Caxton, passionate about the English language

Caxton College takes its name from the first English language Publisher, William Caxton (Kent 1422 - London 1491). During the 15th Century, Caxton endeavoured to standardize the various dialects of English that existed at the time in order to print the first books in Standard English.

One of his most well known printed texts was the first Edition of “The Canterbury Tales” which first saw the Light in 1478. William Caxton was included in the list of the hundred most important Britons in 2002.

Our school holds a shared passion for both English and Spanish culture. It is important for us that we pass this on to our students in an active and personal manner.

“Honeste Vivere”

In Roman times a great Jurist, Domicio Ulpiano, gave three principles upon which social justice should be based:

“Honeste vivere”
1º. To live honourably

“Alterum non laedere”
2º. To harm no one

"Suum cuique tribuere"
3º. To give each his own

HONESTE VIVERE”, the motto here at Caxton College, tries to encourage the pupils that we educate, each with their own destiny, to grow to be “good human beings” and people with worthwhile prospects.

This is a concept related to the pure honesty that our students learn and that will stay with them into adulthood.
