Spanish for international students DURING THE course

The Spanish Department at Caxton College consists of nine native Spanish speaking teachers who work at a very high standard as indicated by the Cervantes Institute which has given our centre accreditation for our Spanish as a Foreign Language teaching. The school offers Spanish as a Foreign Language Courses since 1995.

During the school year, our international students can study Spanish as a foreign language. We offer different levels, under the directives of the Common European Framework of References for Languages

The Spanish education provided by Caxton College follows the model as indicated below:
  • In Primary, when the pupils start at school, they are included in the extra-curricular activity “Spanish as a Foreign Language” where they acquire the necessary knowledge to develop their control of the language with a solid basis. This activity is organised in a fun and enjoyable manner, with resources especially designed for children that wish to learn Spanish as a second language. The school also organises individual Spanish classes for those pupils who request them, in which the teachers attend to the specific needs of each child.
  • Pupils in Years 7 to 10 choose a specific programme of classes during the school day. The courses, which are adapted to their level of language, allow them to acquire the sufficient linguistic competence to be able to understand and react accordingly in daily life situations. Also, pupils can continue to learn Spanish using the internet in the Spanish Language Laboratory ("AVE"), and once they have the necessary fluency, they can sit the Instituto Cervantes's DELE (Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language) examinations.
  • Pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13 prepare for Spanish as a Foreign Language examinations according to the British Curriculum. Therefore, in Year 11 they sit the GCSE, in Year 12 the AS and in Year 13 the A2 (full A Level) examinations. They may also request private lessons or use their free time to work in the Language Laboratory ("AVE").
  • Students following the CISC programme will either follow the Cervantes Institute (DELE) examinations or the Edexcel IGCSE.
