HOST FAMILIES

“Host home, sweet home”

The boarding department at Caxton College shares its role as boarders’ guardian with host families who play a very effective role, making sure that students feel like another member of the family so that they don’t get homesick.

In addition, living with a host family –Spanish or English- allows the boarder to practice the language and get to know the lifestyle and culture of the country. The family helps them discover the Mediterranean diet and also organize trips, encouraging immersion in the native customs.

All the host families of Caxton College are chosen through a strict selection process including interviews and personal visits to the home where the student will stay. Caxton College has host families in the same town where the school is located, as well as in suburbs and villages within a 20 km radius.

We assign each boarder with a family most suited to their profile or preferences: if they want to be with other boarders, if they prefer to be in a family with a Spanish child of their age, if they like animals, play sports, etc.

Of course, important issues such as possible allergies or specific dietary needs are communicated to both the school and host families so that they can make the appropriate arrangements.

Host families also regularly monitor the student, informing the boarding department of the student’s progress and adaptation in important areas such as their diet, time dedicated to study, help with household chores and participation in family life.

Caxton College has direct contact -24 hours a day- with host families in case of any emergency.
